'Love 146' dominates Twibbon trends.
Cause protesting child exploitation is highest trending Twibbon over the weekend.
Over the course of the weekend, Twitter users have banded together to show support for a charity that fights to abolish sexual exploitation of children across the world, using Twibbon.
The ongoing effort, which has already recruited over 3,000 supporters, was reinforced by the participation of popular American rock group, Paramore, who wore their ‘Love 146’ Twibbons and encouraged their followers to do the same. The name 'Love 146' is derived from a trip taken by the charity's founder, Rob Morris, and some friends to South East Asia to educate themselves on the subject of child trafficking. When undercover with private investigators, they infiltrated a brothel where young children had numbers literally pinned to their dresses. Despite the desperate situation faced by those children, the hope and fight in the eyes of one particular girl bearing the number '146' has always stuck with them.
Morris was moved by the tremendous online effort: "As I look at all of these people showing up on Twitter, "wearing" her number to remember and honor not only a young girl known only as "146" but also the thousands she represents...I am stunned. This weekend as I watched the Twibbons adding up, I thought; If she only knew. If she could only know that she is not forgotten. That her story is inspiring a movement to end this modern day form of slavery. Thanks for providing a unique platform like Twibbon to remember the vulnerable and innocent and to raise a collective shout on their behalf. You are part of the solution!"
Twibbon co-founder, Jonathan Joyce, said: “It’s fantastic and humbling that Twibbon can serve as a medium for supporters of charities like Love 146 to connect with each other. Hopefully, the visual dimension of this campaign will help spread the word and encourage support for this vital cause.”
