Over the past couple of years, Poppy Twibbons have been a massive part of the online landscape in and around November with an incredible amount of people supporting and donating to the Royal British Legion appeal.
However, this year was the first time the Royal British Legion themselves had created a Twibbon Campaign. The campaign encouraged users to donate to their official Poppy Appeal, whose objective is to safeguard the welfare, interests and memory of those soldiers who are serving or have served in the British Armed Forces.
As they opted for a Pro Campaign which includes the ability to upload Facebook Covers for your supporters to add, the RBL used the feature to offer this eye-catching one:
Using their social media channels including Facebook, RBL managed to get the campaign to over 65,000 supporters by the time it came to Remembrance Sunday.
As more people showed their support for the campaign the more buzz was generated across Twitter and Facebook:
Using all of the Pro Campaign features available to them, @poppylegion were not only able to have a cohesive look to their microsite on Twibbon with a custom header, Twibbon and several Facebook Covers, but were also able to utilise the add your Facebook page feature, the like your Facebook page button, the customisation of their Twitter tweet and Facebook update and the Twitter autofollow feature.
Being well supported by heavy hitting Twitter accounts such as the ones below also helped to ramp up the campaign’s numbers:
RBL also linked to the donation section of their website from their Twibbon campaign page, offering an additional way for users to support, and a simple method for easily increasing donations.
Did you wear a Poppy this November? Whilst wearing a Poppy Twibbon is a great way to drive awareness of the cause, don’t forget you can donate directly to The Royal British Legion, or to Poppy Scotland, whose charitable work helps support ex-soldiers and their families.
