2013 is drawing to a close and as both Facebook and Twitter have each announced their top trending stories for the year, we too look back over the past 12 months at Twibbon and discover the 10 most popular Campaigns of the year.
10. I Love Ittihad - 18,538 supports
Created by @iJoheer, a football lover if ever we saw one (check out his Twibbon page), his Campaign celebrates the Saudi Premier League football club Al-Ittihad and is one of three of @iJoheer’s Campaigns in the top ten!
9. #syria - 18,572 supports
It was our most popular Campaign of 2012 and has gathered enough support to be included this year. #syria was created by @DrNawras in a reaction to the heightening violence and unrest in the country at the beginning of last year. With a simple yet powerful message of ‘Free Syria’ the campaign captured users’ hearts and minds and sought to show support for and solidarity with the people of Syria.
8. #3Cores1SóTorcida - 18,747 supports
Sao Paulo FC, the third best-supported club in Brazil, created their own Campaign to get the fans behind the team.
7. Mafia das Laranjas - 18,973 supports
The Orange Mafia – enough said? Not for us! If anyone can fill us in on what this Campaign is about we would love to hear! Especially if creator @Manugelis can tell us.
6. Santa Hat - 23,375 supports
The ever popular Santa hat Twibbon, created by Scottish comedian Limmy a few years ago, is still going strong. “Put this Santa Hat on your head and get into the Christmas Spirit” is an order thousands of us obeyed this year!
5. I Love Nassr - 32,209 supports
The second appearance by @iJoheer on this list, this Campaign to support Al-Nassr, the Saudi Arabian Football club based in Riyadh, follows the same template as number 10 in our list.
4. Ja glasam protiv - 37,020 supports
Created only a month ago, this Campaign against a referendum to propose banning same sex marriages in Croatia was deserving of its own blog post due to the incredible number of supports it garnered in a very short period.
3. Special Needs - 41,578 supports
This simple Arabic Twibbon Campaign created by @Shahd_F asked people to stand in unity and with empathy for those coping with special needs. It continues to be extremely popular after it was created last year.
2. I Love Hilal - 56,952 supports
The final football-tastic entry from @iJoheer has almost 60,000 supports this year alone. Al-Hilal is known for being the most widely supported club in Saudi Arabia and was ranked as the Asian Club of the 20th Century.
1. Anti Coup - 109,261 supports
By a mile our most popular Campaign of this year was created by @AboKhozayem in response to the crackdown on the sit-in camps who were protesting against President Mursi of Egypt. Many campaigns were created in response in light of the conflict, but helped by the high profile Twitter accounts that added the Twibbon, this was by far the best supported.
