The campaign to save BBC radio station 6 Music is gathering serious pace after massive online support to keep the station open saw its listenership increase by almost 50%.

The popular cult channel was on the verge of extinction after BBC bosses decided to axe it as part of spending cuts announced in February.

But since then fans of 6 Music have rushed to its support - signing petitions and creating Twibbons to save their beloved station.
